Horizons' six-week summer program is tuition-free and offered to qualifying students in grades Kindergarten through 7th grade. To initially qualify, all students are testing behind their peers in one or more subjects, and qualify for the federal free and reduced priced lunch program. In a robust and fun-filled six weeks, Horizons offers students: (1) academics through STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) project-based learning; (2) dedicated learning blocks for reading and math, (3) enrichment activities to explore and build new talents, (4) swim lessons, (5) social and emotional learning and (6) nutrition support. With a five-to-one student to teacher ratio and a certified Reading Specialist to provide additional literacy support, Horizons students receive individualized attention focused on their academic, social and emotional needs. Horizons also collaborates with outstanding community organizations including Powder Valley Conservation Nature Center, The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, Forest Park Nature Playscape, Missouri Botanical Gardens, Abra-Kid-Dabra and other groups.
