Indiana Youth Group, Inc.

Indiana Youth Group (IYG) has, since 1987, served LGBTQ youth and their allies through programs at an activity center, through capacity building with high school Gay Straight Alliances throughout Indiana, and by providing community education programs and trainings.  In 2012, 575 unique youth came to the activity center with over 4600 total visits.  Our Education Outreach Coordinator visited about 50 different high school GSAs and produced 2 youth leadership summits.

IYG's youth activity center is open Wed, Thurs, and Friday evenings from 3 – 9 PM.  The activity center serves LGBTQ youth ages 12-20 and their straight allies.  Any evening IYG is open there are at least two staff members and between 1 – 4 volunteer mentors present to provide support and supervision. Dinner is provided for the youth by food volunteers.  All services and programs are free.

IYG’s Education Outreach program supports Gay Straight Alliances in high schools across Indiana, provides capacity building for communities wishing to start an LGBTQ youth service, and promotes community education by providing trainings and workshops to schools, social service professionals, colleges, and community groups.

IYG's mission is to provide safe places and confidential environments where self-identified lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) youth are empowered through programs, support services, social and leadership opportunities and community service. IYG advocates on their behalf in schools, in the community, and through family support services.
