John Adams Elementary School PTA

John Adams Elementary School provides a wonderful learning environment for over 1000 students.  We celebrate our diversity, as you'll see if you come to our acclaimed International Night in May. We celebrate music in learning with the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra's Sympatico program, and with the Kennedy Center's CETA program. And we celebrate our children and teachers throughout the year with the activities and programs of the John Adams PTA.

 

Friends, families and neighbors of John Adams, show your support by donating today.  This year we're raising additional funds to cover expenses for the annual 4th grade field trip to Jamestown, cultural events, and to show our teachers how much we appreciate everything they do.  Folks are busy and cannot always volunteer their time, but we can all use this opportunity to contribute to keeping John Adams the great school that it is.

At John Adams Elementary School, we are proud to educate over 700 students in the west end of Alexandria, creating a vibrant learning community where diversity, creativity, and opportunity thrive. Our students represent a beautiful blend of cultures, and as one of the most linguistically diverse schools in Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS), we celebrate this global heritage every day.

John Adams is more than just a school—it’s a place where students grow, express themselves, and discover their potential through innovative partnerships and unique programs:  
 - Dual Language (Spanish-English) Program: Our students learn in both English and Spanish, preparing them to become bilingual, biliterate, and culturally competent citizens.  
 - City-wide Special Education Programs: We serve students with diverse needs, ensuring they receive the personalized support and care they deserve.  
 - Kennedy Center’s Changing Education Through the Arts (CETA) Program: We infuse the arts into learning, fostering creativity and critical thinking.  
- Sympatico Program with the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra: Students receive free, high-quality music instruction before and after school, building skills, confidence, and a lifelong love of music.  

How the John Adams PTA Makes a Difference*
The John Adams PTA is committed to enriching every child’s education, empowering families, and supporting our dedicated staff of over 120 educators. With your support, we’ve already:  
- Sponsored academic and social clubs, including the Spelling Club and Friendship Club, which creates bracelets for children facing hardship.  
- Organized playground cleanups and hosted fun community events like Movie Night, Bingo Night, and Dual Language Family Night.  
- Celebrated milestones with a 5th Grade Celebration and Field Day.  
- Enhanced arts education through continued support for Sympatico.  
- Provided essential school supplies and teacher appreciation events to uplift our hardworking staff. 
 
This year, we aim to raise the funds needed to sustain and expand these enriching opportunities. With your support, we can:  
- Upgrade our playground equipment, creating a safer, more engaging space for all students.  
- Sponsor field trips so that students in Virginia Studies can experience Jamestown and Yorktown firsthand.  
- Expand Sympatico by providing more instruments and music education access.  
- Provide classroom supply allowances for teachers, ensuring every student has the materials they need to succeed.  
- Launch more after-school and out-of-school clubs to keep students learning, growing, and thriving beyond the school day.
