Kentucky Equal Justice Center (KEJC) is a legal advocacy organization serving the most vulnerable communities across our state. We work to ensure every Kentuckian has equal access to justice and opportunity. KEJC advocates help low-income individuals and families get life-saving health coverage, quality housing, nutritious food, and crucial immigration protections. Partners like you help make our advocacy possible!

M.C.'s Story

This summer, KEJC's Health Justice Attorney received a call about a family in a scary situation. After more than a decade of seizures caused by a horse riding accident, M.C. suffered a head injury and ended up in a coma. Because he is undocumented and had no health coverage, the University of Louisville considered moving him to Guatemala, a country he left thirty years ago. This unfortunately common practice is sometimes called medical deportation.

Our Health Justice team fought to get M.C. health coverage and to keep him safe in the U.S. with his family and support system. M.C.'s story underscores the importance of having a team like ours ready to step in when people are being mistreated. Your support makes it possible for us to help Kentuckians who need someone in their corner. Thank you!

In 2014, Consumer Reports recognized Kentucky Equal Justice Center with its Excellence in Consumer Advocacy Award.
