Mission

Kentucky Golden Eagles teaches and trains young athletes in the sport of track & field. We aim to develop disciplined, talented athletes who compete with exemplary sportsmanship and excellence. 

Our Story

Imagine a city with a population of about 38,000 and a county of about 98,000 people without a county wide track and field club for its youth. That was the reality in the city of Richmond, KY and Madison County, KY until September 2023 when Kentucky Golden Eagles Track & Field was formed. 

KGE co-founders & coaches, Art and Niki Lewis, saw that there were no local options for elementary aged track and field teams for their younger son. As middle school track & field head coaches, “Coach Art” and “Coach Niki” Lewis decided to do something about that. 

They began to brainstorm, research, think, pray, talk with others and felt called to step out and take on the enormous task of building a track and field program from the ground up. They had just worked through the challenge of rebuilding a track program at the middle school level for 2 years. But they knew they had to do something for the elementary athletes in the city who had no options but to travel to other counties to join a track club. 

After around 6 months of fully devoted preparation, Kentucky Golden Eagles Track & Field was launched. Kentucky Golden Eagles Track & Field was founded September of 2023, as a Non-Profit 501(c)(3) organization aimed at youth development through track and field based in Richmond, KY. KGE is a certified club of Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) with a focus on athletes in K-5th grades. And we are now expanding to include athletes from 6th-12th grades this upcoming season. 

KGE is the first and only countywide track and field club in Madison County, KY that focuses on elementary aged athletes. In our first season, we saw 33 athletes train with our club, and 5 qualify (3 elementary athletes) in 6 events in the AAU Junior Olympics at the end of July in Greensboro, NC!
