Kentucky Health Justice Network

Kentucky Health Justice Network builds the power of Kentuckians to achieve reproductive justice. We support this mission through direct support, education, and outreach. Our work is guided by the reproductive justice framework, developed by women and people of color. We believe reproductive rights are human rights, and that all people should be able to decide if, when, and how to parent. We have two programs and a conference that supports our mission. 

Our Abortion Support Fund program helps Kentuckians who are navigating the everchanging abortion landscape in the United States. Abortion is banned in the Commonwealth so we help Kentuckians who are seeking abortion care travel to Ohio, Virginia, and Illinois. We support Kentuckians traveling for care with direct appointment funding, childcare assistance, travel assistance, lodging, and other practical support needs identified by the caller.

The Trans Health Program provides critical support for trans-Kentuckians accessing gender-affirming care. We do this through direct support including healthcare and insurance navigation, as well as direct funding for gender-affirming care, gas to appointments, gender-affirming items, small emergency needs, and a quarterly surgical grant. We also provide education and advocacy through community events, guides to address commonly asked questions, and an online database of trans-competent providers sourced from community reviews. 

Take Root, our annual conference is held in October of each year. This year it will be October 18th, 19th, and 20th.  Key themes and tracks for Take Root 2024 include the criminalization of pregnancy outcomes, grassroots movement building, political violence, and RJ101.
