Lafayette Fire Company of East Lampeter Township

The Lafayette Fire Company is located 2 miles east of the Lancaster City. We are an all volunteer department which has been in existence since 1943. 

The Extra Give is an opportunity for Lancaster County residents, businesses, visitors, and other non-profits to drop some money in this virtual Boot Drive for Lafayette Fire Company.

Lafayette is 100% volunteer and depends on the generosity of our community.

Isn't Lafayette not in Lancaster?

Lafayette Fire Company is located in East Lampeter Township in Lancaster, PA named for one of the greatest volunteers in America's revolutionary history, Marquis de Lafayette, a French general who happened to line up his troops on Old Philadelphia Pike near where the firehouse exists today.

Is someone always on duty at the firehouse at Lafayette? The short answer is No. The better answer for our community is that more often now than ever because of our staffing options for volunteers.

Lafayette is 100% volunteer, with a majority of those volunteers being "Home Responders." Home responders come from work or home or wherever they may be in our community when the call for help gets dispatched to the pagers and apps that alert the Lafayette volunteers to respond. 

"Duty Crew" is a designation for firefighters from stations outside of Lafayette Fire Company's area of coverage that come and staff the firehouse for 8 hours minimum per month in order to gain more experience by running the diverse nature of calls that Lafayette responds to each year. Most often you will see Duty Crew staff helping out on the weekends.

"Live-In Program" is a great opportunity for nearby college/university students that are in need of housing. There are 2 live-in positions available currently and prior Firefighting experience is required (see below). The live-in member responds to calls & assists with the operations of the firehouse in exchange for a place to call home.

Support Staff Volunteers help make sure the business of the fire company is completed, assist with fundraisers, maintain the firehouse, and are overall simply helpful to creating a great atmosphere for the fire company. They typically are only at the station for company meetings & scheduled events.

• 400 calls for service year to date
• 4000+ Training Hours (Record number of hours)
• 3000+ hours of collective training
• 4 fundraisers (Fasnacht Day, Chicken BBQ, Smoke Showing Steak Cookoff, & Extra Give)
  
• Cadet Camp for ages 8-14 each summer 
• Upcoming Toy Express Event is scheduled for December 14th as Santa tours our streets and has a special toy event at Tanger from 10am-2pm courtesy of First Responders Children's Foundation.

Lafayette covers an area that is very busy with the local tourist industry, local and corporate businesses and includes unique challenges such as limited access highways, various hotels, an amusement park, schools, nursing homes, restaurants, outlet shopping, a large industrial park, commuter and freight railroad, apartment complexes as well as urban high density housing, suburban homes, farmland, and waterways. 

Lafayette built a new station in 2011 that was designed in the aftermath of 9/11. The design of the building was modeled after the National Incident Management System that encourages unified command on large scale incidents that involve multiple fire, EMS, police, EMA, and government agencies to work together. The Lafayette firehouse came at a cost of $4.4 million and had more than $2 million in grant monies that offset that cost; however, even with frugal budgeting and yearly fundraising, the volunteers are still responsible for $700K left to pay on the mortgage. The forward thinking nature of the building is amazing, and it even has a social hall that the public can rent for special occasions: Social Hall Rental 

The Lafayette volunteers pride themselves on having a carefully maintained fleet of well-equipped apparatus and a strong base of active members who ensure that all calls for service are answered.
