Supported Independent Living (SIL)

Thousands of adults are able to work and live independently despite mild-moderate intellectual or developmental disabilities. For these individuals, a supportive independent living environment offers the right combination of structure and support they need to successfully thrive in the community. 

Thanks to Lakes Region Community Developers, construction is nearly complete on three supportive apartments that will provide homes to adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities who are supported by Lakes Region Community Services. $12,400 is all that is needed to complete Jameson Street Apartments and make the outside feel like home, too.

What is Jameson Street Apartments?

Jameson Street Apartments is a pioneering project — the first of its kind in the Lakes Region — that offers permanent supportive housing for adults with low support needs who are ready to live independently, supported by Lakes Region Community Services.

Until now, adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities had only three choices: live with aging parents, enter a foster home, or move into a 24/7 residential facility. None of these meet the need for independence. Jameson Street Apartments provides a solution that promotes self-sufficiency, dignity, and cost-effective care.

The Finishing Touches That Make It Home

Renovation funding was secured through state grants and housing programs, but due to rising construction costs, landscaping and exterior improvements were not included in the final budget.

We need your help to complete the vision for this home — because what’s outside matters too.

Your contribution will directly fund the final outdoor improvements needed to make Jameson Street Apartments a truly welcoming and accessible home:

• Lawn Installation – Clean-up and fresh grass seeding to create a usable, green outdoor space
  
  




• Foundation Plantings – Simple, beautiful landscaping to soften the curb appeal and create a warm, lived-in look
  
  




• New Picket Fence – Replacing the deteriorating structure with a safe, attractive fence that enhances both security and aesthetics

• 
  Driveway Upgrade – Hard pack treatment to smooth out the existing pothole-filled dirt drive, improving accessibility for residents, staff, and visitors
