Land Trust for Louisiana

A nonprofit organization

Land Trust for Louisiana is a 501(c)(3) non-profit land conservation organization. We work to preserve some of the most fragile and important ecosystems in the country, partnering cooperatively with local communities, landowners, businesses, and other non-profits. By permanently conserving Louisiana lands and waters, we are ensuring that our legacy is one of sustainability, respect, and love for the place we call home.

Land Trust for Louisiana works to protect our state's valuable (and irreplaceable) lands and waters using tools like conservation easements and land acquisition. In operation since 2005, we currently have almost 10,000 acres in conservation all over Louisiana. By working with us, our partners are able to protect riverbanks, save family farms, manage storm water, create wildlife corridors, protect habitat for migrating birds, and much, much more.

We are an accredited organization, by the Land Trust Alliance's Accreditation Commission, and meet the quality standards for protecting important natural places and working lands forever. We are also a State Certified Conservation Organization awarded by the Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources.

Testimonials

The Lake Ponchartrain-Maurepas Swamp was at one time the world's largest cypress swamp. All of this changed from 1876 to 1956 when many of the thousand-year-old trees were felled for timber. It changed again when, thanks to a grant from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Land Trust for Louisiana was able to purchase 700 acres of Cypress Tupelo Swamp to create the West Ponchartrain-Maurepas Swamp Important Bird Area. The purchase prevented further development along the access to the swamp.
