The mission of the Large Animal Protection Society is to stop cruelty to large farm animals in our community. Established in 1988, the Large Animal Protection Society (LAPS) is an all-volunteer nonprofit, state chartered, humane agency. We investigate cruelty complaints in order to uphold Pennsylvania’s animal cruelty laws in Chester and Lancaster counties. LAPS’ state-trained, court-authorized, and badged Humane Society Police Officers provide a valuable community service through education, community outreach and intervening in suspected cases of animal cruelty involving large farm animals.

Similar to SPCAs that help dogs and cats, we use our facilities, equipment and experience with horses, donkeys, cows, pigs, goats, llamas and sheep to take action in cases where the local, small-animal SPCA cannot.

In many cases, LAPS and its humane agents work with animal owner’s providing valuable advice and education regarding proper animal care and nutrition. We strive to keep animals with their owner’s whenever possible.

Animals left in our care are rehabilitated whenever possible, from abused and neglected to happy and healthy, often making them available for adoption.

LAPS is an all-volunteer agency that depends on your generous support, large and small, to provide this crucial service to our community. LAPS receives no funds from any government agencies and relies solely on public donations for continued support.

Please make a difference in the lives of large farm animals today by making a donation, helping us to continue to serve the animals, their caretakers and the community.
