Latino Community Center

A nonprofit organization

The mission of the Latino Community Center is to empower, advocate with, and celebrate Latinos in Allegheny County.

About Eviction Prevention & Housing within the Latinx Community:
The housing crisis has affected thousands and Allegheny County saw a nearly 20% increase in evictions last year. As housing costs continue to climb in Allegheny County, many Latinx families are feeling the strain, especially for single income households. Besides the increase cost of housing, some other major facts why Latinx families face housing insecurity, include family separation, economic disparities, language barriers, and discrimination. At LCC we empower our families by helping them seek employment, learn English, and learn their rights as residences of PA. However, the the average rent has rapidly become unaffordable for numerous families, leading to increased financial stress and a higher risk of eviction. During the 2023-2024 fascial year, LCC provided over $10,000 in emergency housing assistance for Latinx families, especially to single mothers and their children to help prevent eviction.

About the Latino Community Center:
Founded in 2017, the Latino Community Center (LCC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering, advocating with, and celebrating Latinos in Allegheny County. We envision a Pittsburgh community in which all Latinos are valued and have equal and equitable access to the resources needed to thrive. LCC provides a continuum of support to Latino families in Pittsburgh through comprehensive family and education services.

At LCC, we understand that education is key to a better life. We provide bilingual support to Latinx children and youth to succeed in school and beyond through programming that spans from early childhood to afterschool and summer programs, as well as tutoring, and college and career readiness programming. Our programs also offer support to ensure that parents and caregivers have the necessary resources for their families to thrive. These programs include parenting classes, community health workers, and case management services.

LCC works with newly arrived or established Latino/a/x individuals located across Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. The majority of individuals we serve are first generation living in mixed status, economically disadvantaged, low-income households. By advancing and uplifting the Latino community in Pittsburgh, we are working to ensure that Pittsburgh is a welcoming, diverse, and inclusive place for all. Testimonials

Why do you consider that this type of assistance is necessary? "The assistances I received from LCC greatly benefited my family. I have two little girls that are 4 years old and 10 months, I went through a family crisis of separation and I didn't have a job at the time."

How did this type of financial assistance impact you and your family? "It was a great help to avoid being left homeless. I didn't know where to go since I don't have family or friends in this country."

What would have happened to you and your family if this type of assistance was not available? "I think we would have had to go to a shelter because in this country I don't have family or acquaintances to help us."
