Sally's Garden

A Gift of Love and Land

Sally Bill was a farmer, mother, grandmother, spinner, weaver, environmentalist and longtime Lopez resident.

In 1998 Sally gave four acres in the heart of the village for The Farmer's Market, Fertile Ground community garden, the Children's Center and an open space known as Sally's South Garden.

Since 2021, a community process has been underway to revitalize the Sally's Garden area between Eads Lane and the Fertile Ground Community Garden.

The Sally's South Garden Committee, comprised of LCCA Board members Mo Pomietto and Alex Carroll, and community members Eric Blaser, Jane Marshall, Scott Pinegar, Lori Lee Saillé, and Erin Saunders spearheaded these efforts. They hosted community meetings, solicited input and, along with many other community members, volunteered countless hours of their time working on the land.

Based on a detailed landscape plan created by Field and Grove Design, enhancements in Sally's South Garden have included extending the swale, maintaining trees, berries and grounds, and creating a more defined, welcoming entrance at Eads Lane.

We are asking for your support for the final phase of the project: adding additional plantings, picnic tables, and educational signage.

Thank you for all of your generosity and support as we continue working to revitalize this beautiful community space.
