From the Lenni Lenape and Moravians - to the railroad, canal, and trolley cars - to soapbox derbies, Franz Kline, and Bright’s Dept. Store – Lehighton has a story to tell!
The mission of the Lehighton Area Heritage Alliance (LAHA) is to identify, preserve, promote, and educate the public about the historical legacy of Lehighton and the surrounding area; including neighboring municipalities in the "Lehighton Area" of East Penn, Franklin, Mahoning, Parryville, and Weissport.
We are a small, but dedicated, group of volunteers committed to collecting stories and artifacts to safeguard them for future generations. Obtaining a suitable location for a public heritage museum and educational space continues to be one of the key strategic objectives of our organization.
Our Collections Committee is active in organizing and cataloging all the artifacts in our collection in preparation for finding such a space. In addition to our monthly meetings and artifact show-and-tells, our other activities include Songs & Stories in the Mausoleum event, Haunted History Ghost Walks, middle school student history walks, self-guided walking tour on the Stqry app, sharing photos and artifacts at community events, partnership with the Lehighton Borough for the preservation of the Fairgrounds Judges’ Stand, and partnership with the Mahoning Union Sunday School. We also host the lehightonheritage.org website and share Lehighton history on our Facebook page and YouTube channel (@lehightonheritage).
We kicked off 2025 with a membership drive and welcome new members, sponsors, and volunteers who want to be a part of the future of history in the Lehighton area!
