Lighting the Path's successful empowerment practices include: providing education, training, support for small business start-up and it's mission aligns with the United Nations Millennium Development Goal(MDG), which is to empower people and end extreme poverty. We have been working in West Africa for 13 years and have successfully taught skills and improved the lives of thousands in need. We have built a technical residential school compound for abandoned girls to give them a safe place to live and learn and receive training and skills to live a prosperous life. We have built a technical school program in Uganda teaching vocational skills to young people who were not able to complete their schooling due to COVID and need income earning skills to survive.

Together with the help of people like you we are changing communities, giving dignity and making a better future for generations to come.  Lighting the Path is approaching poverty differently by including empowerment.  Meeting the needs of food, water, medical care, shelter and education are the necessary starting points. We then include empowerment with education, skills, small business training and supplies to start a small enterprise and earn an income.  Every person wants to feel valuable and competent and, if given a chance, will work hard to have a good life.                                                                                                                                                                                      Our vision is to empower people to provide for themselves and their family and to see them flourish and live out their full, God-given potential. To accomplish this vision, we engage and challenge societal norms. We work to alleviate suffering through action oriented work while respecting cultural and personal differences, along with caring for physical and emotional needs.
We are working towards opening a location in St. Louis to empower marginalized populations, immigrants and refugees and implement needed community programs. We would like to start a small business incubator to empower marginalized populations in St. Louis. We would use the program to teach skills and small business practices to give them an opportunity start their own business.
We have taught sewing skills to immigrant and refugee women and free small business development classes at St. Louis University campus. By empowering individuals with education and job skills, instruction in the production of marketable goods and creation of sustainable businesses, we help families increase income, nutrition, education and access to healthcare.
By helping women learn a trade we also help communities, empower families, raise the standard of living and create jobs and equitable growth. To end poverty, we must empower those marginalized populations and enable them to help themselves prosper.
We are running projects to build the production of women's washable reusable hygiene products and distribute them to those in poverty. Maintaining respect for cultural and social practices and maintaining the dignity of the individual is one of our priorities. We have found that once people are able to meet their own needs and improve their families' standard of living, they are able to teach others and this increases the effectiveness of our efforts and this expands the mission reach. Building unity between people from different backgrounds helps all areas of society on all levels and building dignity by letting those in need know they are worthy and loved helps them personally prosper.
