Little Sun People

A nonprofit organization

In a climate where books about Black communities are bannedBlack history is being excised from school curricula (to the extent it is already in there), and school funding faces an existential threat, Little Sun People remains steadfast in its commitment to providing an African-centered culturally-responsive education - by any means necessary!

Little Sun People, Inc. (LSP) is a non-profit early childhood education center that provides culturally responsive education to preschool learners in Brooklyn. For over 40 years, LSP has brought to life the contributions and experience of people of African descent in the context of an academically rigorous curriculum that prepares our students holistically for what lies ahead in their varied academic and life journeys. This combination is precisely what makes an LSP education a high-quality early childhood program.

Understanding the need for children to receive a culturally responsive education beyond preschool years, LSP has embarked on its newest chapter by offering its first kindergarten class and elementary afterschool program!

This entry into elementary education would not have been possible without the help of generous supporters who helped Little Sun People not only survive the COVID-19 pandemic but also come out on the other side in a brand new physical space that gave us the room to add an additional early childhood class and expand into elementary education.

The timing of this new chapter could not be more critical.  Your donations this Giving Tuesday (and through the end of 2024) will help us embark on this new chapter - in the midst of unbelievable uncertainty- in the most sustainable way.
