Celebrating 74 years, the Long Beach Museum of Art is an anchor institution where art, community, and sustainability intersect. It serves as the cultural heart of Long Beach, offering a comfortable and enjoyable oceanfront setting for people of all ages to experience the beauty and power of art.  The museum's permanent collection is a valuable community resource, used primarily as a teaching tool to promote the world of art, the lives of artists, and the creative process as an integral part of education. Additionally, the museum organizes thematic permanent collection exhibitions and exhibitions featuring national and Southern California artists, including emerging and women artists.

Since 1999, the museum has partnered with the Long Beach Unified School District to provide in-classroom arts education and museum field trips for all fifth graders. The John and Helen Apostle Youth Gallery showcases artworks of elementary, middle, and high school art students through regular exhibitions. The museum also engages families, seniors, students, and young people to cultivate long-lasting relationships. Furthermore, its outdoor campus is widely used for seasonal weddings, community gatherings, Sunday Family Art-making, and adult workshops. Beyond its role as a community partner and cultural resource, the museum is a vital local employer and an economic engine for the city.
