In order to qualify for childcare at LCDC, parents must be working or continuing education, including job training programs. The poverty threshold is currently $26,500 for a family of four. In Longview, 18.3% of the population is at or below that poverty rate. Anticipating the population count has increased since the most recent census of just under 82,000 individuals, this means that just over 15,000 Longview residents are at or below the line of poverty. We feel that it is crucial for LCDC to be able to continue to operate to offer child care at such a reduced rate in order for the young men and women of Longview to rise above these statistics and create a better future for our children.

One of the most positive impacts on the community of Longview is the support and empowerment given to families to improve their financial status without having to solely rely on government assistance. In addition to providing quality childcare, LCDC is providing jobs to employees who otherwise might not have the opportunity to enter the workforce. We provide early childhood development education training which in turn increases their employability and creates pride in the LCDC program. We also know through research that children who participate in quality childcare programs are considerably more successful once they start public school.
