Lou Tate Foundation, DBA The Little Loomhouse

Located in South Louisville in three board and batten cabins in the remnants of an old oak forest, the Little Loomhouse is on the national historic register and a Louisville Landmark. We have been a safe space for female creatives since 1898, and specifically dedicated to the preservation and education of handweaving and textile arts since 1939 when our Founder, Lou Tate moved to the property. We are one of the few remaining thriving textile art centers left in our country to offer space to meet, exhibit, teach, and learn about the history of weaving and fiber arts. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to weave a piece of their own in our unique, magical setting on our Lou Tate Little Looms. As an education center, the Loomhouse is committed to nurturing textile artists and enthusiasts, of all ages, through multiple programs including classes, camps, artist residencies, internships, lectures, teaching opportunities, and exhibitions. In addition to on-site programs, the Little Loomhouse partners with community centers, libraries, schools, and other community spaces to provide fiber arts programs throughout the Louisville area and surrounding region. We typically serve over 6,800 people in educational programs.  Our students learn the art of spinning yarn, how to weave, and create finished pieces. In the words of our founder, Weaver, Historian, Inventor, Author, Publisher, Lou Tate, "If people who are interested in folk arts don't pass it on to children, who will?"
