Louisiana Children's Musuem

A nonprofit organization

In 2026, LCM celebrates its 40th anniversary. From its beginnings behind the iconic blue doors on Julia Street to its sustainable, world-class home in City Park, the institution has spent four decades transforming curiosity into lifelong learning. Ranked by Travel & Leisure as one of the nine best children’s museums in the nation, LCM is a cornerstone of New Orleans—and the cognitive, social, and emotional development of its youngest citizens.

Opened in 1986, LCM is the oldest children’s museum in a four-state area and the only one in Louisiana to receive the National Medal - the nation's highest honor conferred on museums for extraordinary service to the community from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The museum's 8.5-acre campus in City Park serves 180,000 visitors annually.

Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, its five galleries empower youth through four key impact areas: Culture and Heritage, Health and Wellness, Sustainability and the Environment, and Early Learning and Literacy. At LCM, children find the interactive tools they need to see and reach their full potential.
