For nearly 40 years, the Louisiana Children's Museum has served the greater New Orleans community and beyond. Opened to visitors in 1986, the Louisiana Children's Museum (LCM) is the oldest children's museum in a four-state area, and the only museum in Louisiana to have received the National Medal - the nation's highest honor conferred on museums for extraordinary service to the community from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
After more than 30 years on Julia Street, we moved to our new home in 2019, a state-of-the-art sustainable facility that sits on 8.5 acres in New Orleans City Park. This expansive indoor/outdoor campus is the epicenter of our programs, where we serve about 200,000 children, families, and community members a year.
Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach to childhood education, LCM's exhibits and programs provide youth with the tools they need to see and reach their potential. Throughout the museum's five galleries, children explore interactive exhibits that highlight our region's unique culture and environment through four impact areas: Culture and Heritage, Health and Wellness, Sustainability and the Environment, and Early Learning and Literacy.
"The Louisiana Children's Museum has always been a special place for children to learn, explore, and grow. I have very fond memories of the Louisiana Children's Museum from my childhood. I am grateful that my daughter and so many other kids can experience the treasure of the Louisiana Children's Museum." - Royce Duplessis, Parent & LCM Supporter.
