Historic Florissant, Inc.

A nonprofit organization

Historic Florissant has successfully protected 13 properties from demolition. All contribute to the multiple resources of the historic district. For the past two years HFI has worked with the City of Florissant to restore an 1870 farmhouse located in St. Ferdinand Park. One property, the Gittemeier House and Museum, serves as home office to Historic Florissant and serves as a research center. The research center holds all documents related to the history of Florissant; over 200 historic house files, over 200 files of immigrant families and prominent citizens, family genealogies , family trees, deeds, marriages licenses, old maps, old photographs of known and unknown people and much more. The community uses these resources when researching family genealogies, or for any other reason old information is needed. A resident historian and volunteers are available and in 2022 helped over 60 families with genealogies and assisted approximately 400 visitors. Historic Florissant has an annual benefit dinner, an annual house tour, and annual ghost tour to raise funds. Donors send small donations to cover operational costs. Currently, additional funds are needed to cover the costs of materials to rebuild the back portion of the Reeb house and to restore the remainder of the smoke and water damaged home. Historic Florissant, Inc. is a tax deductible 501 (c) 3. We have no paid employees or dues paying members. We cannot do our work without the support of our community.
