Lucky A Ranch Equine Sanctuary

To save and to re-home as many slaughter bound donkeys as we can along with helping our local communities and surrounding areas by taking in abused and unwanted donkeys and mules. We also take in retired forest service horses and mules to prevent them from going to the auction and meet an uncertain fate.

We are a small donkey and mule rescue and sanctuary located on 45 acres in Alpine, Arizona, in the heart of the White Mountains.
We became a public charity in 2014 but were taking in unwanted animals long before that. Mainly a donkey rescue, we occasionally take in mules and horses. We save donkeys from the kill pen and also take in donkeys and mules from the surrounding areas depending on the situation if we are able to. We also contribute to the control of the local feral cat population by trapping them, getting them spayed/neutered and releasing them.
Our rescue is run by mother/daughter team. We get help from local volunteers with transport and all around tasks. We rely on donations and fundraisers to accomplish our mission. Saving donkeys from the kill pen is a very expensive project. We have to buy them, most of the time they require medical attention due to infections contracted at the pens. We have to pay for transport from the kill pen to the rescue, we also have to buy hay, blankets etc.....
Our goal for 2017 is to be able to build more shelters for shade in summer and snow in winter to make their stay with us better. Since November of 2015, we have saved 45 donkeys and re-homed 35 of them. We would like to be able to continue our mission and won't be able to without the local support, fundraisers and donations.
Currently, we are home to 20 donkeys, 2 mules and 4 horses.
