Luzerne County Head Start, Inc.

Luzerne County Head Start moves families forward. 

Established in 1965, LCHS is a nonprofit leader in early childhood education and family development with a mission to enhance the quality of life for low-income families. 

With 20 locations across Luzerne and Wyoming counties, our agency provides comprehensive education, health and family support services at no cost to expecting parents, children from birth to age 5, and their families. This includes Head Start and Pre-K Counts preschool classrooms for 3- to 5-year-old children and Early Head Start home visiting services for expecting parents, infants, and toddlers up to age 3. Our programs support the development of the whole child to help them grow mentally, socially, emotionally and physically. 

We believe that children and their families must be well to do well. Using a two-generation model and leveraging community partnerships, our programs are meant to strengthen families and ultimately guide them to self-sufficiency. These services have a lasting impact and allow our community’s most vulnerable children to get a “head start” in school and in life.
