Mental Health Connecticut

Mental Health Connecticut’s Independence Center (IC) is MHC’s social and community center located in Waterbury. The IC serves individuals who are living below the poverty line, and experiencing difficulties living independently due to mental health conditions, physical disabilities, homelessness, under and unemployment, and lack of access to nutritious food. The IC serves approximately 400 Waterbury residents every year.

IC members receive free and nutritious meals, supported education, computer training, education on health and nutrition, self-advocacy training, homeless services, symptom management classes, and employment readiness training. The IC offers an environment for individuals with mental health conditions to gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence to achieve their goals and realize recovery. Health and wellness play an integral role in all aspects of the IC, and daily workshops provide members with supports that can positively impact their recovery journey.
