College is a major life decision, but the process of getting into college can be confusing, frustrating, and overwhelming. Plus, affording college can seem daunting.
Mentors 4 College helps high school students and their families understand and navigate the college/certificate program/apprenticeship selection and application process. Our highly-trained, volunteer mentors work one-to-one with students & families to choose their best-fit schools and provide guidance throughout the process. Best of all, they get this help for FREE!
Your donation will help us provide our services and resources to our mentees and all interested high school students & parents free of charge. Your donation will also help us train and provide in-services to our all-volunteer mentor corps. Most of all, your donation will help us reach more students in the years to come!
More about our organization, which is in its 13th year of helping students and families. We have supported over 6,500 students and parents since we started, all free of charge:
•Our flagship program is our free one-to-one mentoring program, which is available for 9th - 12th graders. We have supported over 700 students and parents in our program this year!
•We also provide monthly webinars, essay writing classes, interview practice sessions, and other resources for high school students and parents. We have reached over 600 students and parents through our monthly webinars in FY23 and over 2,500 since FY21.
•We partner with multiple school communities in the greater St. Louis area, including more than a dozen high schools and Aim High STL.
•We believe in the importance of local roots for creating a lasting impact in our communities, so, whenever possible, our mentors come from the communities where they mentor. Many of our mentors are parents of former mentees who, having seen the success of our program, want to give back to their communities.
•We believe that every student should be able to find the best-fit post-high school plan for them. Our track record is excellent! 88% of our graduates attend a 2- or 4-year college, vs 69% nationally. 94% of those students return to that same institution for their second year vs a max of 81% nationally - so our mentors help their students make the right choice.
• To reach more minority students in at-risk and distressed communities, we have launched our Diversity 1000 program, designed to reach 1,000 students by 2027. Part of Diversity 1000 is a digital marketing effort to reach these students and inform them of our free services. But of course, this takes funding!
