Middlebury Historical Society, Inc.

$4,785 raised by 22 donors

The Middlebury Historical Society just celebrated fifty years of service to Middlebury, thanks to your support. To celebrate our town's contribution to the American Revolution through our veterans who fought in the War for Independence, and those who served throughout our history, the society joins the town in celebrating the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, and the ideals embodied in our Constitution and founding documents. We will continue to celebrate our history, and invite you to visit our museum, archive, library and research center.

This year, the society is seeking donations of any amounts
to continue the programs which have benefitted Middlebury:

  • The
French Army / Rochambeau Memorial Monument Project now underway

    Cemetery

  • Gravestone Cleaning and Maintenance Program (undertaken with the
    Middlebury Cemetery Association)

  • Monthly
Historical Presentations at Shepardson Community Center, with experts
presenting timely topics, free to the public

  • Ongoing
tours of our historic museum for the public every week of the year

  • Monthly
original historical articles in local publications

    Assisting
Middleburians and others with inquiries about our history

  • Providing
assistance to all for our archive of photographs, documents and books

  • Collecting
all things relevant to Middlebury's marvelous history

  • And
    much more

Currently, our French Army / Rochambeau Monument is fully
underway, and we are seeking generous donors, especially in the $1,000 and
higher categories of giving. However, any amount is greatly appreciated. See
our website for full details: MiddleburyHistoricalSociety.org (lowercase
letters are okay).

Each year, volunteers from the Middlebury Historical Society
gather to clean gravestones. We not only collect history, but we preserve it in
its many forms!

If you wish to volunteer, we will teach you how to do it,
and provide the supplies to start cleaning. It's fun and relaxing, and very
rewarding!

The Middlebury Historical Society will once again begin
gatherings at the Middlebury Cemetery to clean the gravestones of the
“forefathers and foremothers of the hamlet.”  If you are interested in
taking part in this special project, please contact Bob Rafford by emailing to
president@middleburyhistoricalsociety.org  or call the Historical
Society at Bob’s number, 203-206-4717.  Further details concerning dates
and times will be forthcoming.
