Mid-Plains United Way

Mid-Plains United Way aims to mobilize the generosity of the public so we can unite our resources to build a strong, caring community. We envision a community where all individuals and families achieve their full potential through access to quality education, financial stability and healthy lives. It is our promise to stand for what is right and provide financial transparency so we can maintain donor trust. We can accomplish anything when we unite for the common good.

Our organization was founded in 1942 as Red Feather 8-in-One organization, which became the North Platte Community Chest and funded 11 local agencies. Over time, our name had a few changes, but supported the community in the same capacity. We officially became Mid-Plains United Way in 1974 and have since expanded our reach to support 16 counties in Western Nebraska. We currently partner with 11 local non-profit agencies that focus on three areas: financial stability, education, and health. Investment in these sectors creates long-term economic development, which give us the opportunity to increase the average household income, and graduation/employment rates and improve the average health of individuals in our communities over a long period of time. Each agency goes through an application process to receive funds. Once approved, funds are distributed quarterly after financial and community impact reviewing.

A young woman in her 30's was struggling with mental health and substance abuse when she came to The Connection. She had no home, car, access to food when she first came. The Connection, with funds from Mid-Plains United Way, set her up for success with their 16 month program. They found her a job that aligned with her skills and helped her achieve other life goals. After a year of being at The Connection, she was able to save up enough money to buy herself a vehicle. The young woman was ecstatic and very proud of herself. Mid-Plains United Way provides funds to The Connection & 10 other local non-profits to allow families & individuals to reach success.
