Mile High Kids (MHK) is committed to raising awareness of the crisis quietly unfolding in the lives of families with small children. These are the most critical developmental years, yet often the most unstable for parents, especially single parents. When you’re choosing between rent and groceries, when your job is at risk because your childcare fell through, when you’re too stressed to cook or too tired to heal, your family suffers. And your children carry that weight.

At Mile High Kids, we support children by supporting their families. We believe in wraparound services, meaningful mentorship, early learning, mental health access, and trusted community relationships. And we know this isn’t just a Hampton Roads problem, it’s a community issue, wherever you call home.

Mile High Kids mission is to prepare children and families for success by breaking cycles of poverty and empowering underserved communities in Virginia. Through high-quality early childhood education, family support services, and community engagement programs, we equip children and families with the tools they need to succeed. Our comprehensive approach, integrating education, financial literacy, health services, workforce development and family involvement, creates a foundation for lifelong learning, stability, and community transformation.

MHK’s programs are specifically designed to meet the needs of economically disadvantaged families, particularly those living below the poverty line. By providing early childhood education and family support MHK addresses critical gaps in services and education that hinder family stability and success. The organization’s expansion into rural counties demonstrates its commitment to reaching marginalized and underserved populations. Additionally, MHK’s leadership and staff reflect the cultural and socioeconomic diversity of the communities they serve, ensuring programs are both inclusive and responsive to local needs.

At Mile High Kids, we understand the profound impact that strong family bonds have on a child's development. In addition to providing Early Education and After-School programs, MHK supports families by delivering programs in the communities we serve.  Our programs are designed to nurture this connection, creating a supportive and engaging environment for both parents and children. 

MHK’s family-centered approach enhances community engagement and support with our signature programs like “Muffins with Moms,” “Digging with Dads,” and monthly parent center meetings foster meaningful connections between families and the organization.
