Monroe County Meals on Wheels

Monroe County Meals on Wheels is proud to be celebrating our 53rd year of providing superior nutritional support, a daily human connection, and other supportive services to the homebound so they may remain safe and independent in their homes.  Since our inception in 1972, we have delivered over 2.75 million meals to homebound seniors and adults with disabilities in Monroe County.  Currently, over 200 dedicated volunteers ensure that these meals arrive at our clients' homes with a friendly smile. 

Throughout the years Monroe County Meals on Wheels has continued to add additional services for our clients beyond their regular meal delivery.  This began with our Pet Program, founded in 2009 when staff realized some clients were sharing their meals with their pets.  The program provides clients with a two-week supply of pet food delivered once a month.  We expanded the services offered for clients and their 24/7 companions in 2017 by adding a Pet Care Program, offering financial assistance with basic veterinary care including well-care exams and immunizations.  In 2020, we saw a new need arise - clients who were unable to access or afford food also struggled to obtain critical household essentials, such as toilet paper, cleaning supplies, and personal care items.  Our Case Manager then established our Client Needs Pantry, which distributes those items to clients on a quarterly basis.  Clients are eligible for case management, emergency meals, birthday and holiday gifts, and more.  These auxiliary programs are offered to all clients at no additional charge and, with the exception of case management and emergency bags, are entirely run via a combination of in-kind donations, grant funding, and individual donations specifically earmarked for each program.
