The Monumental Task Committee (MTC) is celebrating over 35 years of restoring, repairing, and maintaining monuments in the City of New Orleans and State of Louisiana. Completed projects are now over 80 and includes very well-known monuments (Ben Franklin, Martin Luther King, Margaret Haughery) and other monuments that are less known (Zacherie Sundial, Weddell Monument, and Avery Alexander). The MTC performs restoration of historical markers for area parishes and for the State.

While monuments are our focus, MTC educates the public about it's work. MTC performs lecture series and radio engagements to educate people on historic monuments and markers. We also started a pilot program, with technical assistance from the state of Louisiana's Department of Culture, Recreation, and Tourism, to refurbish historic markers; as well as working with Parish officials about restoring their markers. We have completed restoration of markers throughout the region. Finally, we also host bus tours of over 60 monuments in the city as well as lectures.

Testimonials

MTC has a long legacy of restoring historic monuments and markers throughout South Louisiana because of the generous support of donors and supporters.
We are appreciative of our volunteers. However, the National Park Service approved processes used to clean and refurbish are expensive. It includes purchasing proper equipment (PPE, special brushes, walnut shells for blasting) and as well as the special chemical solutions and approved biological agents for proper treatments.
