Mount Vernon Community School PTA

The Mount Vernon Community School PTA is dedicated to building a school community that supports students, parents and teachers so all children have access to a vibrant, enriching place to learn. This year, we are focusing our Giving Tuesday efforts on raising funds for Blessings in a Backpack, teacher grants, and other important causes to help all students at MVCS reach their full potential. 

All donations will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $5,000 by our generous neighbor Jen Walker! This means your donation will go twice as far in helping our community.

Last week, many of us paused in gratitude for our blessings. Please keep the spirit of gratitude and giving alive this Giving Tuesday by making a generous donation to PTA so we can continue to support programs like:  

• Blessings in a Backpack – This program provides nutritious, kid-friendly snacks and meals for MVCS children and their families. Each Friday, MVCS staff discreetly distribute these bags to students in need. 

• Teacher Grants – These grants help teachers buy classroom supplies so they aren’t paying out of pocket for educational items for our kids. These grants are especially helpful for new teachers as they build their classrooms.  

• Field Trips – Through the PTAs fundraising, every child at MVCS has the opportunity to attend field trips and learn outside the classroom. 

Thank you for giving what you can and asking your friends and family to do the same. The generosity and compassion of our Del Ray community are part of what makes MVCS a wonderful school for all. 

The Countdown Begins: The 15th Annual Spring2Action is Wednesday, April 9!

Alexandria’s Giving Day (aka Spring2Action), brought to you by ACT for Alexandria, has this simple idea: "Our community is better when we give together." And at MVCS, we’ve learned that when we come together, magic happens.

This year’s fundraising focus? Drumroll please... Our incredible teachers! We’re raising funds to support our rockstar teachers and staff who make our school feel like the best place to learn. Your donations will help fund teacher wish lists and mini grants, giving teachers the tools to make their classrooms even more awesome. Here’s what our teachers have said about what PTA funds have helped with in the past:

“Through the PTA, we have been able to purchase a music system and basic necessities such as ball pumps and gator balls for P.E. From buckets to behavior charts, volleyballs and beach balls, the list goes on. The physical and financial support for any event has always been outstanding, with support from the heart in equal measure regardless of task. Thank you, MVCS PTA!” Mr. Wadeson, P.E. teacher

 “PTA funds have been instrumental in supporting the MVCS Art program. Thanks to PTA fundraising efforts, we have been able to order specialized materials that are out of our normal program budget, such as lightboxes for our self-portrait drawing unit and a real tabletop printing press for students to use during our printmaking units. These additional funds have allowed us to make lessons more fun, accessible, and impactful for all MVCS artists.” Ms. Lovelace & Mr. Sierra, Art Department
