Music and Culture Coalition of New Orleans

A nonprofit organization

We collaborate with, organize, and build the civic capacity of the New Orleans music and cultural community to preserve and nurture the city's culture, to translate community vision into policy change, and to create a more just and equitable city and region.

MaCCNO works to support and strengthen New Orleans's cultural communities. We use a three-fold structure that includes:

ACCESS TO OPPORTUNITY
MaCCNO serves as a connector and capacity builder by providing fiscal agency and sponsorship services; grant writing assistance; connections to fiscal management services; coaching and assistance interacting with elected officials and city government, and more. We work to ensure everyone has the skills and connections they need to thrive.

POLICY CHANGE AND ADVOCACY
We work with the cultural community to change local ordinances and policies to build creative and financial opportunity. Most recently, this was the legalization of outdoor live music and entertainment and an ordinance that sets a minimum wage of $200/hr per musicians at city funded events

DIRECT ASSISTANCE
Working through existing neighborhood and cultural networks, we provide emergency disaster relief grants, connections to legal services, mediation, and more. Post COVID and Hurricane Ida, we distributed nearly 1000 grants totaling over $350,000.

Testimonials

ARSÉNE DELAY, SINGER/SONGWRITER AND ORIGINAL BLACK SEMINOLE BABY DOLL
MaCCNO navigates spaces we often have neither the time nor the bandwidth to be as cultural community members. The importance of them being there is how we prevent lawmakers from codifying decisions about our livelihood, and undoing the harmful policies put in place at a time when Black folks were historically barred from being there, or speaking out. The practice of making/changing policy is long and arduous, and I personally wouldn't want to be in the current state of affairs without MaCCNO, after having a front row seat to the work they've done over the last 10 years.
