NAMI Southwestern Pennsylvania

NAMI Southwestern Pennsylvania is dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness through recovery-focused support, education, and advocacy.

NAMI Southwestern Pennsylvania is a regional affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the nation's largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. In the 10-county region of Southwestern Pennsylvania, NAMI's staff, board and dedicated volunteers work together to raise awareness about mental illness and provide support, education and advocacy for people living with mental illness and their loved ones.

Learning about mental illness is often the first step and a vital component of the recovery process. It is NAMI Southwestern Pennsylvania's mission to provide the education and tools individuals and their family members need to overcome stigma, find treatment and manage their illness in the most productive way possible. NAMI serves as a resource center of mental health information and provides a variety of educational programs as well as customized presentations for schools, businesses and community groups.

Individuals who are being treated for mental illness and their families need to have a seat at the table where decisions are made. "Nothing about us without us" are the watchwords of the successful advocate for the treatment of mental illness. It drives almost everything we do at NAMI.

At NAMI we help people to develop their own assertive, hopeful, positive voices that advocate the correct medical treatment for people affected by mental illness. We support grassroots efforts across southwestern Pennsylvania by teaching people how to share their own story in a compelling way, how to identify key decision makers, and when to tell their story for optimal effect. We make every member a better messenger of recovery in their own grassroots efforts to improve the quality of mental health care for themselves or their loved ones.
