The mission of New Conservatory Theatre Center is to champion innovative, high-quality productions & educational theatre experiences for youth, artists, and the queer & allied communities to effect personal & societal growth, enlightenment and change.
Our vision is that theatre is a community event and a way to build community.
There are three primary programs at New Conservatory Theatre Center with the following missions and central aims:
To develop & produce queer & allied theatre that gives voice to, entertains, and promotes exploration in order to celebrate diversity and foster communication.
Our education programs provide top quality progressive theatre education through classes, camps, performances, and touring productions to empower youth to express themselves, celebrate difference, and gain self-esteem. Our programs include:
YOUTH CONSERVATORY which provides theatre education to K-12 students at NCTC and brings residencies to afterschool programs through our Satellite Drama Education Program.
YOUTHAWARE which develops and produces performances to educate youth and those who guide them with particular focus on challenging issues, new ideas, and making choices that will positively impact their lives.
NEW VOICES/NEW WORK
New Voices/New Work was created in 2002 to commission and develop new work for young audiences and to expand the canon of LGBTQ+ themed plays. The program celebrates and gives voice to a broad range of playwrights. NCTC has produced more than 40 world premieres over nearly four decades.
New Conservatory Theatre Center (NCTC) has been in operation since 1981. Still led by its Founding Artistic Director, Ed Decker, NCTC provides the San Francisco community with high-quality youth education programming, Queer & Allied theatre, children’s theatre, and new work commissions. NCTC’s annual operating budget is approximately 2 million.
