North Hills Food Bank

A nonprofit organization

The North Hills Food Bank's mission is to alleviate hunger among local residents. Our food pantry serves families and patrons residing in the townships and boroughs of Ross, West View, McCandless, Reserve, Kilbuck, Ohio and Franklin Park. We are neighbors helping neighbors during times of need.

The North Hills Food Bank was established in 1984. Today we serve approximate 225 families each month, which is an average of over 500 individuals. We are a non-profit 501c3 organization, operating independently but affiliated with the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank.

The North Hills Food Bank has no paid employees and is staffed solely by volunteers. This includes everyone from the folks who serve patrons to the Director of our facility. In addition to serving families when the food pantry is open, volunteers pick up donations from local food drives; stock shelves and keep the facility clean; ensure that the refrigeration and freezer equipment is properly maintained; and gather & track data required to meet Federal and State reporting guidelines. Our volunteers even plant flowers around the building to make it look warm and inviting, and to let everyone know they are welcome.

Donations and support for the North Hills Food Bank come from local service clubs, churches, schools, businesses and individuals. Many of these organizations conduct food drives to help stock the shelves with non-perishable food items. Local restaurants and grocers provide donations of fresh food and produce.

The North Hills Food Bank is a true example of neighbors helping neighbors during times of need.
