Mission

Our Vision: Justice for all low-income people in Washington.

Our Mission: Combating Injustice • Strengthening Communities • Protecting Human Dignity.

Description

Income should not determine someone’s ability to achieve just results from our legal system. The ‘right to an attorney’ does not extend to civil legal cases related to domestic violence, predatory debt collection, consumer fraud and more. For people in poverty, paying for an attorney is all but impossible. The absence of legal advice or representation makes people vulnerable to catastrophic consequences.

Northwest Justice Project (NJP) combats injustice, strengthens communities, and protects human dignity by providing free legal education, advice, and representation for low-income and other vulnerable persons. NJP’s statewide team of more than 350 attorneys in 21 offices across Washington State help our clients achieve just outcomes in their fight for security, safety, and stability in their lives.

Since 1996, NJP has closed more than 400,000 cases that have directly benefited nearly 1,000,000 low-income people in our state. In addition to individual cases, NJP also identifies and addresses prevalent systemic inequities that have benefits for low-income community members across the state.
