NOLA Nature School

Our mission at NOLA Nature School is to provide all children and families with an educational opportunity that respects the place we live and follows the interest of the students, supports all domains of a child's development and encourages children to develop a connection to and concern for our natural world. With a firm belief that nature provides ample resources through which children can learn, NOLA Nature School integrates the philosophy of Reggio Emilia into a unique place based education.

Nola Nature School provides opportunities for learning and growth through play-based, hands-on experiences. With highly trained early childhood educators and certified master naturalists working as team teachers, each class has the tools for both social emotional development and nature immersion. We believe that both the physical and emotional development of young children is the cornerstone of later academic success. We give children the ability to develop an intimate relationship with the bayous and wetlands of southern Louisiana. We know that early exposure to the beauty of our unique ecosystem will teach students to promote its health and survival, essential skills for their role as its stewards.

Our school started as a Saturday enrichment program and has grown into a school offering class for pre kindergarten and kindergarten age children. As we continue to grow with our local community, we strengthen our commitment to place-based education using nature and our city as a both classroom and subject matter. We use the tenets found in teaching in Reggio Emilia to guide our curriculum and support child-led inquiry. We believe children are capable, curious, and strong.
