New Orleans Preservation Coalition

The New Orleans Preservation Coalition and Alliance for Response is a network of concerned institutions, individuals, and agencies who recognize the need to sustain and protect cultural heritage in Louisiana. The NOPC's mission is to provide opportunities for preservation education amongst its members, as well as assistance with preparedness for and response to catastrophic weather events and other emergencies that threaten the physical safety of collections.

We officially launched the New Orleans Preservation Coalition in June of 2018 with an exciting, information-packed day-long program that included the performing arts community, museums, libraries, and archives and our local emergency response sector. Our yearly programming includes free workshops on emergency preparedness for cultural heritage organizations of all sizes. Such workshops include techniques for the proper care and salvage of collections and business records, the development of disaster response plans and continuity of operation plans. We also provide a network for response during a crisis that coordinates the response with affected cultural heritage organizations and our local emergency response sector.

Our GiveNOLADay campaign goal is to raise $2000 to help pay for emergency response supplies including dataloggers, two-way radios, and high performance airmovers to add to our existing supply cache for use by network members. We learned from Hurricane Ida that we needed to augment our supply cache to handle large scale disasters, so this equipment would be great to have on hand! We also hope to use these funds to offer honorariums for guest speakers and training leaders, and we hope to expand these relief and training activities more widely across Southest Louisiana in the future.
