VFW Post 8973

A nonprofit organization

VFW Post 8973's primary mission is to assist returning veterans with the transition from combat to civilian life. This is done through service to other veterans as well as service to the community. While the members of VFW Post 8973 no longer wear the uniform, our mission of service continues.

The NOLA VFW is a unique place that provides vets w/job counseling, peer mentoring, assistance w/VA claims & camaraderie. Members include combat vets who have served in every conflict since World War II. All funds raised support the VFW's vets' assistance programs.

Employment Assistance - Members meet w/service members leaving the military & assist them in crafting their resumes & preparing for interviews. They also provide an informal job bank & help connect vets w/employers.

Assistance w/VA Claims - NOLA VFW assists vets w/claims for health & disability benefits w/the VA. The VFW has a team of members who help navigate the VA bureaucracy & assist vets w/understanding the claims process.

Pro-Bono Legal Assistance - The VFW has partnered w/the American Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, & the Pro-Bono Project to put on a series of pro-bono legal clinics. At these clinics, attorneys meet w/vets to provide advice on a host of civil claims.

Homeless Vets Outreach - NOLA VFW has partnered w/the City of New Orleans & active duty military units to reach homeless vets. Homeless vets are eligible for VA programs that can help move them off of the street & into a home.
