Northeast Senior Assistance

Our mission is to assist elderly age 60+ by providing FREE rides for wellness services that enable them to live independently in their own homes among their own possessions and memories. We rely on volunteers from all over San Antonio to provide personal rides to doctor appointments, pharmacies and other errands that are essential, as well as grocery shopping. What's unique about us is that we provide door-through-door service. That means our volunteers use their own vehicle to pick up one client at a time, drive them to the doctor, stay in the waiting room, then drive them home. Seniors don't have to worry about being left alone. We give them reassurance, and let them know they are special. Many cannot take public transportation because they can't physically get to the bus stop or step up on the bus, wait, nor can they afford taxi service. Plus they need help finding the doctor office, filling out forms, and sometimes listening to the doctor. You simply can't drop them off. In 2024, our volunteers made over 7,200 trips with over 10,420 hours of service, and our volunteers logged in over 52,900 miles of service!! With more of San Antonio's community aging, the need for our services continues to grow. The relationship between volunteers and clients is special. Bonds are made and friendships are formed...both of their lives are improved!

Who We Are

We're passionate about older adults. They've given so much to this society throughout their lives, now it's time to return the favor. Since 1984, we've been making sure they can get to their healthcare, and their nutrition...services they need to remain living in their own homes. Through the use of dedicated volunteers, we take them to doctor appointments, stay with them and return them home; and we do their grocery shopping, minor home repairs, call to check on them, and provide socialization so they won't be isolated... this is especially important during the COVID-19 pandemic. All these services are FREE! This way they can remain a part of society and not have to relocate to a nursing home sooner than necessary. Last year in 2019, our volunteers made over 6,100 trips and provided over 8,700 hours of service! Your donation helps ensure that we're here for them and others as they age.
