North Platte Opportunity Center

A nonprofit organization

It is our mission to treat people with dignity and respect while supporting achievement, independence, safety, and health. We are committed to providing services that enhance the achievement of people's aspirations in employment, residential living, vocational activity, and community participation.

The North Platte Opportunity Center (NPOC) is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of adults and children living with developmental and intellectual disabilities in Lincoln, Keith Counties and the surrounding rural areas. NPOC provides a continuum of services to adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities.

Our Goals:
- Identify relevant issues of interest and concern to our customers and advocate on behalf of the needs of individuals with a focus on the celebration of life and the gifts each person brings to the community.
- Provide services that enhance the continued quality of life for persons served with a plan to decrease dependence on agency supports.
- Provide supports that enhance community participation and contribution so that every individual feels value, worth, autonomy, and security.
- Give individuals experiences and options that are available to them and reach beyond what appears available.
- Assist persons served to seek diverse and inclusive residential options.
- Assist persons served to find and maintain employment that will enhance their financial security and decrease their dependence on other funding sources.
- Increase public understanding of, respect for, and partnership with people with disabilities.
- Hire, train, and maintain people-oriented staff who follow the highest standards of professionalism, competence, and ethical conduct.
- Continually monitor, evaluate and communicate: a) the changing role of NPOC b) the future role of citizens with disabilities, and c) the methods by which NPOC assists people with developmental disabilities to deal with their environment and achieve their goals.

Testimonials

When I graduated from high school I was unsure of what my future held, and once I was able to be at NPOC I began working at NOTS (New Opportunity Thrift Store) and the woodshop at Sandhills. I have learned many skills and in addition to working at NOTS and Sandhills, I am now working a few hours a month at a local business in town, with the support of staff from NPOC. I am glad I have had the staff and friends at NPOC.
