notMYkid

A nonprofit organization

notMYkid has a mission to empower and educate youth, families, and communities with the knowledge and courage to identify and prevent negative youth behavior. Founded in 2000, notMYkid is leading the way by offering the highest quality prevention, early intervention and behavioral health treatment programs to AZ youth. To date, we have served over 2 million individuals, ensuring youth have the resources and support they need to reach adulthood healthy and whole.

With a vision for every child to reach their full potential through positive life choices, Steve and Debbie Moak co-founded notMYkid in 2000 after battling the substance use disorder of their teenage son. The journey towards their son's recovery was filled with heartache and regret, as the Moak's felt that not enough had been done to prevent their son from straying down a destructive path. The first-hand experiences of the Moak's are what inspired them to develop notMYkid with a simple principle behind its inception; prevention, before intervention.

Recognizing that the challenges our youth face today are complex and can potentially devastate and derail futures, notMYkid passionately works to educate and protect our community's kids by providing a full continuum of care for youth and families. Our team of prevention and behavioral health experts are dedicated to helping youth overcome challenges during their most vulnerable years. We are dedicated to helping youth overcome challenges during their most vulnerable years. Our programs include prevention education presentations, life skills training, summer workshops, group support for teens, early intervention for families, Peer Support, family navigation, and behavioral health counseling. notMYkid offers all services in-person and online through telehealth.

Testimonials

"I had realized that some of the things I had said to people in the past were unnecessary and I was ready to make a change…Thank you for everything you have done. You saved my life."

"We can spend all day reading books and taking tests, but until we hear something real, something that flips us on our heads, we will never truly understand. Your story gave us the perspective we really needed to fully understand why we are told "drugs are bad". Thank you so much, I commend your bravery and honesty."

"Thank you very much for coming here because every time I get bullied or have a problem I try to stay quiet or ignore everyone around me…you said that you forgave them so that they wouldn't have power over you. Now when I can't do something or am scared I know that you have experienced the same things. Thank you for sharing your story."

"You said that you were from a different country and that people bullied you because of your accent; sometimes people judge me from my appearance. Now I know that bullying can be stopped. Thank you for your time spent with our class."

"Wanted to give a brief recap on the presentation at Dobson High yesterday. Karen and I were able to go sit in on the 50 minute presentation and it was FANTASTIC. I highly recommend this program to anyone that is working with teens. We were both blown away by the speaker. We were observing the teens in the auditorium and he literally held everyone's attention 99%, if not 100%, of the 50 minutes. Jason, the presenter, was animated, real, honest, captivating and open. Afterward, several students came up to him to ask him questions. I could see how these teens were impacted by his story, and I could that he got many of those students thinking twice about what he was sharing with them."

Highly, highly recommend this.
