No Waste Louisiana

A nonprofit organization

No Waste Louisiana is an education and advocacy organization, dedicated to empowering local communities throughout our state to take a preemptive stand against waste and pollution. We provide community leaders with the resources and expertise they need to prevent and reduce waste in their local areas. Together, we can move Louisiana away from reliance on plastics and landfills, while protecting our neighborhoods, bayous, and parks from pollution.

Since 2015, No Waste Louisiana has supported its local affiliates to adopt common sense, equitable waste prevention strategies and has protected the rights of communities across the state to determine their own budgets, policies, and practices when it comes to waste.

No Waste Louisiana, through its local chapters in New Orleans and Lafayette, uplifts and empowers local leaders to prevent wasteful practices that harm local environments or residents. Through educational events, film screenings, and community dialogue sessions, No Waste Louisiana provides tools, information, and resources to residents and leaders looking to change policy or practice to prevent waste. Our sessions primarily focus on changing local policy to eliminate unnecessary food packaging waste, like plastic bags; preventing wasted money and materials through reuse and upcycling workshops; composting workshops; and zero waste practice holistically, include both policy and behavior change/

No Waste Louisiana believes deeply in environmental justice and equity, and therefore all of its projects, workshops, and initiatives are collaborative endeavors with other organizations in the community that also support strongly the concepts of equity and justice. Our work is done and shared in service to existing local leadership, and will be used to truly uplift the roots of leadership and sustainability present in local communities.
