OCD Louisiana

A nonprofit organization

OCD Louisiana, an affiliate of the International OCD Foundation, is a donor-supported organization run by volunteers. We aim to provide education, resources, and support to the local community to increase access to effective treatment and promote awareness about obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and related disorders (hoarding disorder, body dysmorphic disorder, and body-focused repetitive behaviors). We have worked to develop a community for those affected by OCD and related disorders and the professionals who treat them.

Were you aware that over 75% of Louisianans lack access to appropriate mental health care? This means our children, adolescents and adults encounter numerous barriers to effective treatment. Moreover, access to specialized mental health care is exceedingly scarce. Our top priority is to facilitate easier access to treatment for OCD and related disorders in Louisiana. In partnership with Rise Center for OCD and Anxiety, we developed Courageous Campers, a low-cost one-week psychotherapeutic summer camp for children with OCD and anxiety. Not only have we been able to directly provide access to specialized treatment to local kids, we have also provided a great learning experience to local therapists-in-training so that they can provide this kind of treatment in the future. We host a free consultation group for Louisiana clinicians to gain expertise on working with individuals with OCD and related concerns. Lastly, we host the annual New Orleans OCD Walk each fall, which is a great opportunity to support each other and spread awareness to the greater community.

Testimonials

"I attend the monthly consultation group for professionals through OCD Louisiana and I was not only thrilled when the group was formed, but continue to look forward to and appreciate the opportunity to consult with other professionals engaging in OCD work. I find this especially valuable as a psychologist in private practice, knowing I have this support from colleagues to enhance my services for individuals coping with OCD in Louisiana." ~ Lisa Abbrecht, PsyD, New Orleans Anxiety & OCD, LLC
