Olympia Mill Village Museum

A nonprofit organization

The mission is to enhance the lives of our community by preserving and promoting the history of the Olympia Mill Village through the creation of a local history museum.

We are opening a local museum dedicated to the original "Lintheads," the mill workers and their families that made up the Olympia Mill Village, as well as the generations after them who attended Olympia High School. We are renovating the original Olympia Mill School, which was open from 1901-1909, into the museum. We have had generous support from our wonderful local community and are looking for a final push of funding to help complete this project by the fall of 2018.

Sherry and Jake Jaco were the founders of this project and have continued to reach out to Olympians near and far to send in family photos, stories and artifacts about their time in the mill village.

Testimonials

Olympia is a special place. Fond memories and local legends are always exchanged whenever two Olympians meet up. This sense of community is something we hope to capture in the new museum, along with harder topics like child labor and the challenges of mill work. Forged through trials of poverty, hard work and play, Olympians have a unique history to tell in Columbia and the whole state. We will host school groups when we are open and admission will be free!
