A nonprofit organization

Mission

The Y is a cause-driven non-profit whose mission is to strengthen community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

Description

At the Y, we're for youth development. We see every interaction with children and teens as an opportunity for learning and development grounded in the Y's core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. We help children and teens develop self-confidence, character, values and leadership skills through innovative and empowering youth programs. Programs include our Swim Lesson Outreach Program that teaches water safety skills to second graders; our 7th Grade Initiative that provides free memberships and access to the Y after-school; and our licensed child care program, After the Bell.
At the Y, we're for healthy living. We help people and families improve their health and well-being and provide them with tools to build and maintain healthy habits for life. Our Fit 5 program helps to address childhood obesity, Exercise & Thrive supports cancer survivors, and Active Older Adult programs help to prevent chronic disease.
At the Y, we're for social responsibility. We take on the most urgent needs in our community and inspire others to take action in return. We mobilize volunteers to serve in our school-based mentoring program, Building Futures; and to prepare meals for our Summer Meals & Literacy Programs. We provide financial assistance to subsidize the cost of programs and membership to ensure that the Y remains affordable for all in our community.
