As we celebrate the 5th anniversary of Marriage Equality in Iowa

LGBT Iowa families still struggle for equality.

One Iowa leads the equality fight for LGBT Iowans and their families.

 

•  One Iowa works to protect the civil rights of LGBT families by:
  • Fighting for fair courts that will protect our rights, including the freedom to marry
  • Countering arguments of “religious liberty” that threaten our access to public venues, and challenge businesses that refuse to serve LGBT people

 

 

• One Iowa works to keep LGBT families healthy by:
  • Successfully modernizing Iowa's punitive HIV law.
  • Educating Iowans that under the Affordable Care Act “being LGBT is no longer a previously existing condition.”
  • Training healthcare providers to treat LGBT patients with compassion and confidentiality
  • Researching and documenting the healthcare needs of LGBT Iowans
  • Working to understand and respond to the needs of LGBT elders

 

• One Iowa works to keep incarcerated LGBT family members safe by:
  • Training prison and jail guards and staff how to treat LGBT inmates with respect
  • Educating Department of Corrections staff on the legal protections due to LGBT inmates
