OPERA San Antonio exists to bring high-quality opera and knowledge of opera to San Antonio's entire community and surrounding areas and to build an opera audience by introducing opera to the community through educational outreach.

The company is committed to preserving and sharing opera as an art form that is relevant, engaging, and accessible to residents and visitors of all ages and backgrounds. OPERA San Antonio strives to foster meaningful cultural activities and broaden public participation in the arts.

Of the performing arts, opera is in many ways the most accessible, combining as it does story and character, drama, symphonic music, and voice. When people do encounter great opera they encounter a profoundly humanistic enterprise—human characters, human emotion, and music from the most unique instrument, the human voice. The civic premise of OPERA San Antonio’s mission is that the city needs, and the citizens deserve, access to the major performing arts.
