Our Voice Nuestra Voz (OVNV) is a nation-building organization, anchoring ancestry while building Black and brown solidarity in New Orleans. We build the capacity of community members, parents, and families to act as advocates to create a more equitable city.

Our work includes:

  1. Community Organizing: We train everyday community members to organize and lead complex advocacy campaigns. Our campaigns have resulted in better protections for students, living wages for food service workers, more accountability for local schools, government-issued IDs for mixed-status families, and more.

  2. Cultural Preservation: We host convenings to promote healing, wellness, and narrative change. This includes Living History walking tours, a podcast featuring prominent social justice leaders, our Dad Krewe community of Black and brown fathers, and a documentary on the immigrant experience.

  3. Education: We deliver fellowships and training for educators, aspiring leaders, and students. This includes a career development program for English learners, a fellowship focused on solidarity-building and systems change, professional development for teachers of immigrant students, and Spanish classes for Black community members.

  4. Rapid Response: We fill emergent needs by creating an infrastructure of care, providing community members with what they need when they need it -- including groceries, mutual aid, and hurricane preparedness resources.
