People Who Care serves the Quad Cities (population 100,000 with approximately 400 square miles) communities of Prescott, Chino Valley, Prescott Valley, and Dewey in Arizona. We are a non-profit organization of volunteers that provide fully-escorted, door-through-door transportation and non-medical assistance to adults who are unable to drive due to physical limitations or age-related challenges. All of our services are provided by volunteers AT NO CHARGE. In addition to transportation, we provide compassionate services including escorted grocery shopping, online grocery ordering and/or delivery, basic technology instruction and support, family caregiver relief, assistance with personal paperwork, friendly phone calls and visits, home safety assessments, low vision and stroke support group meetings, Guardian Angel emergency devices, and minor home repairs.
In 2020, in the midst of the COVID pandemic, more than 300 of our volunteers contributed 15,800 hours of service and used their own vehicles to drive our 360 client/Neighbors to meet their medical and food needs! For this reason, and because of the generous support of donors like you, we are able to help to our Neighbors at no charge
The Quad Cities have very few transportation options that are easily accessed by the elderly or those with physical limitations. Volunteer provided transportation constitutes nearly 60% of our services. In fact, in 2020, we provided more than 4,443 transportation related services - at NO CHARGE. We offer the only free, door-through-door escorted volunteer transportation assistance in the area- meaning we assist our Neighbors from their doorstep, into the office/store, and safely back into their homes. Without our transportation service many or our client/Neighbors would be unable to access their medical appointments, go to the grocery store, or remain living in their own homes.
" I just don't know what I would do if People Who Care wasn't there for me. I don't have much money. Bill and I never had children and he died last year so I am all alone. You have no idea how I look forward to Jane taking me to the grocery store each week. We have become such good friends". - M. L. M.
"I now know about loneliness. My wife died of cancer last year and I just don't understand why I have been abandoned by my family. I was a caring and loving father to my two boys. I am so thankful that I found you and all of your wonderful caring volunteers. Every day that they are in my life is a beautiful one. Thank You, H.G.
"I am a physical therapist for a home health agency here in Prescott. Over the past several years, I have had the opportunity to observe how your organization impacts our patients who are living at home alone. As a healthcare provider, I am very grateful to PWC, as you provide resources to the people of this community- my patients- who otherwise would go without. I had one patient that had fallen down and spent three days on the floor until your volunteer came in and found her found. She was in very poor condition and, according to her, near death. I treated this sweet woman in her new ALF apartment for 2 months and at every session she thanked God for the man- your volunteer- who found her and for your organization. She could not say enough good for PWC. Thank you so very much to the service you are to this community!" L.M., PT
