Pittsburgh Musical Theater is a non-profit professional company whose mission is to provide quality musical theater at affordable prices, support the education of youth and develop and employ local talent.

Pittsburgh Musical Theater and its Resident Artists continue fulfilling their roles as leaders, educators and advocates in the community. PMT's initiatives fill the gaps of art program budget cuts in the schools as Resident Artists join educators and PMT Administrative Artists to plan, implement and evaluate programs.

Supporting musical theater education and engaging community members in artistically engaging experiences are priorities for Pittsburgh Musical Theater. We believe that the Arts are part of a complete education. To this end, we:
• Share the artistry of PMT with toddlers, school-aged children, teachers, adults and seniors of diverse geographic and socioeconomic backgrounds
• Build programs that are audience-friendly and educational
• Ensure that programs are accessible and affordable to/for underserved populations
• Ensure programs fit within the Strategic Plan
• Prepare supplementary educational materials that integrate musical theater with other disciplines
• Continually evaluate and improve PMT's programs, so as to make them relevant in the lives of our audiences
• Increase community awareness of the value, diversity and breadth of PMT programming

PMT also realizes that its work is not exclusive to theatrical and performing arts. PMT programs create connections in the community, which foster a lifetime of enrichment through musical theater and continually build new and deeper relationships with area residents and organizations. Programs include Allegheny Intermediate Unit partnerships, Tales and Treats Community Theater in the Gargaro Theater, intimate family question and answer talkback sessions with PMT performers and artistic team members, community outreach performances by the Xtreme Teen Broadway and students at neighborhood locations with visits and performances by PMT performers at events throughout the region.

Pittsburgh Musical Theater's Programs include:
Creative Learning Center Program- encourages the development of theatrical aptitude in children (the potential to understand and produce theatrical works) by providing access to high quality artistic experiences and encouraging enriched environments. Building upon an already successful "Broadway Juniors" 4 - 7 year old program, PMT also incorporates a ballet program for ages 4 - 7 years olds, "Plies and Pirouettes". Combined these programs encompass the Creative Learning Center.

Student Matinee Program- is one of the few professional musical theater matinee programs in the area made available to school aged children during school hours. The modest price makes these shows affordable to cash-strapped school districts that are struggling to maintain an arts education curriculum. More than 25,000 students attend PMT matinees at a cost of $8.00 or less. Schools pay an average of $10.00 per student to attend; the cost to present a PMT matinee is $25.00 per student.

Richard E. Rauh Conservatory/CAPA Symphony Partnership Program- allows the Richard E. Rauh Conservatory Theater Company and the CAPA Symphony to continue to collaborate on an annual production at the Byham Theater, located in downtown Pittsburgh. PMT continues to be the only full-scale musical production, which partners and collaborates with a student Orchestra produced in a major Cultural District venue. All roles are performed by students enrolled at the Richard E. Rauh Conservatory and accommodate a compliment of over 80 CAPA Symphony Musicians.

Broadway at the Overlook Program- is an annual outreach performance provided to the West End community free of charge. Over 2,000 patrons attend this event annually in the month of August/September. PMT's talented Resident Artists and student performers delight audiences with a sneak peak of the upcoming season. This unique outreach initiative enhances the experience for both the community and the students, in the belief that Pittsburgh's underserved community members deserve exposure to quality musical theater events.

PMT College Mentoring Program- is an initiative to assist high school juniors and seniors with their college application and audition processes. Pittsburgh Musical Theater partners a mentor to collaborate with brainstorming possible college essay topics, editing drafts of college essays and setting goals and deadlines for application materials. Many of these students will be the first from their families to attend a college for performing arts. PMT provides each student with a college mentor free of charge. We have not limited this program only to students focusing on a career in the Arts but provide support to all students regardless of their future plans. Mentors meet one-on-one with students and their families on a regular basis to follow up on meeting deadlines and for support...
